English UK is the national association for the UK’s English language teaching sector. Our members are accredited English language centres across the UK. We also work with our partner agencies, corporate members and a wide range of sector organisations.

Together, we help students from around the world learn English, experience life in the UK, and build skills, confidence and international connections that support their future education and careers.

The UK ELT sector contributes £1.8 billion to the economy and supports around 40,000 jobs nationwide. English UK works to strengthen and promote the sector, helping our members deliver high-quality experiences for students while supporting the long-term success of English language teaching across the UK.

We are a registered charity.

Supporting quality across the sector

Quality is at the heart of everything we do.

All English UK member centres are accredited through UK government-recognised quality assurance schemes, including Accreditation UK, which we deliver in partnership with the British Council. These independent inspections help ensure high standards of teaching, management, student welfare, facilities and safeguarding.

We also provide guidance, training and support to help centres maintain and continuously improve standards.

Training and professional development

We deliver training, qualifications, conferences and events for professionals working across the English language teaching sector.

Our programme covers areas such as safeguarding, student welfare, accommodation, leadership, management, marketing and recruitment, helping centres stay informed and continue developing their teams.

Data and industry insights

Reliable data helps businesses and organisations make informed decisions.

English UK produces sector statistics, market intelligence and benchmarking reports that help members understand trends, identify opportunities and plan for the future.

Marketing the UK

We work with government departments, the British Council, international partners and industry stakeholders to promote the UK as a leading destination for learning English.

Our marketing activity helps raise awareness of the benefits of studying English in the UK and supports member centres in reaching international students and education agents. We also organise international recruitment events, including StudyWorld and other networking opportunities that connect accredited UK providers with agents and partners from around the world.
