English UK is the leading source of research, data and market intelligence on the UK English language teaching (ELT) sector.
We help build a clear picture of UK ELT by tracking student demand, market trends and the sector’s economic contribution to the UK.

Our research and data publications

Annual student data
Our Annual Student Statistics Reports provide the most comprehensive picture of UK ELT, helping members understand market performance, track trends and benchmark their own activity.
The full versions of the reports are available to member centres, corporate members and partner agencies. Executive summaries is available to everyone.
We also publish annual global market data comparing the UK’s performance with other major English-speaking ELT destinations.
Quarterly student data
The Quarterly Intelligence Cohort (QUIC) is our quarterly benchmarking and student data scheme. Around 60% of English UK member centres choose to take part.
We publish a public snapshot of the latest UK-wide trends each quarter. Participating centres receive detailed reports, interactive datasets and expert-led webinars to help them benchmark performance and understand market trends.
Economic impact research
We occasionally commission independent research to measure the contribution of English language teaching to the UK economy.
Our latest economic impact study, published in 2025 by Pragmatix Advisory, found that the sector generates around £1.8 billion in gross value added and supports approximately 40,000 jobs across the UK.
Other research
We commission research on specific market, policy and operational issues affecting the sector. Recent projects have examined accommodation supply, visa refusals, regional market development and member confidence during periods of international uncertainty.
Wider sector intelligence
We monitor, interpret and share data from government departments, tourism bodies, international education organisations and other trusted sources.
This helps us understand the factors shaping international student mobility and strengthens our work on behalf of the UK ELT sector.
